The hollowed box is made of pure cedar wood. 
The cushion is made from indigo-dyed cotton velveteen, and the stuffed cushioning inside is made from sheep's wool. The raw wool contains a suitable amount of oil which acts as an anticorrosive, protecting the needles from rust.
