HOW TO CARE
We recommend gently hand washing your item with mild detergent and lukewarm water for the first two to three washes after purchase.
For tapestries, cloths, and other decorative items, we suggest hand washing with warm water once every six months to one year to remove any excess dye.
Please use detergents that do not contain whitening or bleaching agents.
Although BUAISOU’s indigo-dyed products are treated with natural stripping agents to remove excess dye prior to purchase, color transfer may still occur with strong friction or close, vigorous contact.
During washing, brown or yellow tones may appear. This is a natural characteristic of the sukumo indigo we use, caused by plant-derived residues released from the fermented indigo leaves. With repeated washing, excess dye is gradually released, often resulting in colors that become clearer and more vivid over time. This process is an inherent characteristic of our indigo dyeing.
Removing Plant Residues (A few times a year):
Soak the item in lukewarm water (not boiling) for about 30 minutes. Brown or yellow residues may be released during this process. After soaking, rinse several times with cold water and hang to dry in the shade.
As each item is handmade, colors and patterns will vary from piece to piece.
Please note that prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light, such as direct sunlight, may cause discoloration. We recommend keeping items away from excessive UV exposure.
In the unlikely event of discoloration, soak the item overnight in hot water, then wash and repeat if necessary.
Machine washing is possible using a delicate cycle.
Regarding Noren, we also offer washing and excess plant residue removal services. Please feel free to contact us for details.
