Bandana - PADDLERS COFFEE
This bandana was created to commemorate the pop-up store held with PADDLERS COFFEE in 2015. The design depicts the story of coffee cultivation and the long journey from coffee bean to a single cup.
The pattern is created using a discharge technique known as Bassen, in which color is removed after dyeing, and each piece is then hand-finished and sewn in our studio.
Using inspiration from vintage bandanas dating to the pre-industrial era before the introduction of synthetic indigo at the end of the 19th century, BUAISOU’s classic bandana is woven on a specially developed fabric. By carefully adjusting the thread count, yarn quality, and weaving density, we achieved a fabric with double selvedges—a feature rarely seen for more than a century.
Traditional looms capable of weaving fabric at this width are extremely rare. Fortunately, one such loom was found in a mill in our hometown of Tokushima. After having been out of operation for several decades, it has now been restored and returned to active use.
About Handcrafted Variations
Each piece is individually handmade and indigo-dyed.
As a result, natural variations in color, texture, and pattern are to be expected.
Please note that the appearance may differ slightly from what you see on your screen due to individual characteristics and monitor settings.
These variations are not imperfections, but part of the unique character and depth inherent to natural dyeing—something fundamentally different from printed or synthetic-dyed products.
